Ura Upper Village

Known locally as Shingkhar, Ura Upper Village sits a few kilometers above the village of Ura itself. The village offers visitors a chance to experience Bhutanese country life at its most traditional, as well as access to a varied handful of hiking trails. With fewer than forty households, Shingkhar remains a tight-knit rural community that has resisted many changes and threats from outside. Most recently, the town defeated a plan to sculpt a golf course from the rolling hills that surround the neat village. This proud preservation of environment and culture gives the village a wonderfully Bhutanese feel.
