Mo Chhu River

attraction
The Mo Chhu rises near Bhutan's border with Tibet. The narrow stream -- its name meaning "Female River" -- broadens as it tumbles out of the highlands past Gasa Tshachu and into the Mo Chhu Valley. Further downstream, just below the village of Tashithang, the river is channelled into the dramatic Devil's Gorge in a stretch of the river popular with kayakers and whitewater rafters. The flow gradually lessens as the Mo Chhu passes the gleaming golden peak of the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. From there the river flows past beautiful Punakha Dzong where it merges with the Po Chhu, or "Male River" and begins the next stage of its journey to the Brahmaputra and the Indian Ocean.
