The Trashigang Archeology Site is the actual excavation site of the Tsimdrok Tashicholing Lhakhang, located in Chaling, under Shongphu Gewog, Trashigang. This 337 years old Lhakhang is believed to be the birth place and home of Gyalse Ganapati, the reincarnation of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel’s son, Jampel Dorji. Gyalse Ganapati is renowned in the history of Bhutan for his dual assumption of the posts of a Desi and Je Khenpo in the same year (1705). The Lhakhang has remained buried for over 300 years since the death of Gyalse Ganapati who was just 25 years old in the year 1710. Excavation work at the Trashigang Archeology Site began in 2007 under the guidance of Sakteng Trulku Sangay Dorji. Items of huge religious and historical significance, some dating back to centuries, have been discovered at the site, all of which has been moved to Trashigang Dzong for safe keeping.
